Day 1: Cusco – Tambomachay - Pumamarca:

We begin our journey departing from Cusco, by a private vehicle, in northern direction of the Inca Site known as Tambomachay (3700 meters). It is a ceremonial center dedicated to honor the water. From here, we will begin trekking down the road as it curves sharply up-hill to reach after one hour the pass of Sicllaccasa, at 4020 meters. Here we are at the Quebrada Ccauca, filled with impressive geological formations and native plants. Afterwards we get to the second Pass of Queullacocha located at 4,100 m with panoramic views on the mountain range of Vilcabamba, with peaks as Veronica, Chicon, Pitusiray, Colquecruz and San Juan. Then our easy third Pass will be of Challu Challu at 4170m from where you can see flats of Chinchero, the Lake of Piuray and the lake of Qoricocha "the golden lake". We will continue to follow the trail down into the valley and towards the small community at the bottom. As we descend along the trail, you will see a beautiful green valley stretching out as far as the eye can see. The path we will see on its right slope leads to Pisac. Passing through the village and across a new bridge, the trail takes us up over the second pass (4300 meters) and into high open country. On the way, we will pass by the beautiful Lake Qoricocha (Golden Lake in Quechua). We continue along this rustic trail, eventually arriving at the highest point of the trek, 4350 meters, with its great views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Finally, we will descend towards the Pumamarca community (4010m) a farmer's town with 40 families, where we will arrive late afternoon. Here, we set up camp followed by dinner. (L, D).

After trekking for about 2 hours, we will arrive to Huchuy Qosqo, located at 3605 meters, which is an old Inca temple and the former residence of a well-respected Inca family, with spectacular views over the Vilcabamba mountain range, the Vilcanota River.
