AAET07    Trekking & Climbing Antisana                6D/5N

anti-climbing 600

This is a very good program for climbers accounting with very good climbing skills and techniques. This climb has no pre-designed route; the climbers (with the guide) must find the best and most suitable way to reach the summit. Definitely, this is a very exciting adventure..

Day 1: From Quito transport by car to El Tambo in the highlands of Papallacta. From here equipment and luggage is carried by mules and the trek (4 hours) heads south-west to the lower plains around the volcano lake. Camp I at 3800m. (LB, D).

Day 2: Early start for the longest (5-6 hours) part of the trek. Some hill climbing is to start, later on crossing a luxuriant polylepis forest, and then with beautiful views throughout the day we will continue till we reach our next camp site on Santa Lucia highlands on the north-western side of the volcano. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of Antisana. There is also a possibility of seeing condors at some time during the day. Camp II at 4200m. (B, LB, D).

Day 3: (6 hours trek). Traversing the moraines, we will trek towards the base of the west glaciers of Antisana. Camp III is set at 4500m.  Enjoy a spectacular landscape! (B, LB, D).

Day 4: Resting day to get acclimatized while enjoying the great landscape of this beautiful volcano. (B, L, D).
