AABSUFD01     Salar de Uyuni (from Uyuni)        1 day

Starting from the town of Uyuni, we will take you along the impressive Salt Desert with our first visit to Colchani, a typical artisanal salt extracting village. Then we continue towards the Salar de Uyuni itself where we visit The Island Incahuasi, an interesting hilly outcrop in the middle of the salt desert. This place is covered by giant cactus and on top of it we can find remains of the Inca culture. Lunch and after a short rest we do an overland cross of the Salar de Uyuni in our way to visit the Galaxy Cave, an interesting geological formation. Close to it is the Devils cave where we will find some well-preserved old mummies. Our final visit will be to the Train Cemetery, located 3 km outside Uyuni and connected to it by the old train tracks. The rail construction started in 1888 and ended in 1892 and the trains were mostly used by the mining companies. In the 1940s, the mining industry collapsed and many trains were abandoned thereby producing the train cemetery. Transport back to Uyuni.
