CONDOR-TREK 600Trekking Antisana, Sincholagua & Cotopaxi Volcanoes

This exciting trek will take you up to the highlands of the Antisana Volcano, one of the most beautiful mountains of Ecuador. Later on, we will trek to the base of the Sincholagua, an extinct volcano that offers great views of the Ecuadorian Andes. Finally, we will arrive to the plateau known as Limpiopungo, a flat valley located at the base of the impressive Cotopaxi snow-capped perfect, known as one of the highest active volcanos in the world.

As an extension, we also offer the climb of the normal route of Cotopaxi volcano.

Day 1: Quito – Volcano Lake Camp:
We pick up you from your hotel in Quito and then transport by car to El Tambo settlement on the highlands of Papallacta Lagoon. From here equipment and luggage is carried by mules and then we trek for about 4 hours, heading south-west to the lower plains around the volcano lake (Laguna Tumiguina). Camp I at 3,650 m. (Lunch Box, Dinner).

Day 2: Volcano Lake Camp – Antisanilla (Santa Lucia) Camp.
This day we start early morning for the longest (6-7 hours) part of the trek. Some hill climbing is to start later on crossing a luxuriant polylepis forest, and then with beautiful views through the day we will continue till we reach our next camp site on Santa Lucia highlands on the north-western side of the Antisana volcano (5705m / 18712ft) and at the foothills of the Antisanilla Rocky peaks. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of the impressive volcano. There is also a possibility of seeing condors at some time during the day. Camp II at 4,350 m. (Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner)

Day 3: Antisanilla Camp – Pullurima Camp
After breakfast we continue our trek first towards the beautiful Mica Lagoon. This huge lake is one of the main water sources for the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. From here then we will trek passing the old house of Hacienda El Hato, one of the biggest highlands haciendas in Ecuador. Here and with little luck we will be able to observe thousands of sheep’s wandering on the high plateaus. Then we will continue our trek towards our camp at 4000m at the place known as Pullurima. Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner.

Day 4: Pullurima Camp – Sincholagua (Shutog) Camp
This day we will continue our trek along the beautiful highlands of the paramo of the Antisana reserve. We cross small rivers heading south towards the base of the Sincholagua (4873m / 15984ft)) extinct volcano. During our way we will be able to observe several Andean birds: Cara Cara, Mountain Gals, may be some Condors, etc. Our camp will be fixed at an altitude of 4000m near to the base of the rocky peak of the Sincholagua Volcano and close to the place known as Quebrada Shutog at 4000m. Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner.

Day 5: Sincholagua (Shutog) Camp – Limpiopungo Valley – Quito
Our last day Trek will take us first to a high pass at 4200m, then descend to a valley just at the base of the Sincholagua Volcano from where we enjoy the views of the Southeast side of the volcano. Then we ascend to a second high pass at 4400m from where and weather permitting we will enjoy magnificent views of the Cotopaxi Volcano (5897m) with its snow-capped perfect cone. We descend the paramo areas to reach the Pita River and crossing it we will meet our transport which will take us back to Quito. End of our services. Breakfast, Lunch Box.
