AABC06  Ancohuma (or Jankhouma) (6430m / 21090ft) Classic route    9D/8N


Day 1: La Paz – Ancohuma Village.

We drive from La Paz to Sorata village where we have our lunch. Then we continue by 4WD for about 4 hours until we reach the town of Ancohuma, lying at the foothills of the Illampu. Camp at 3900m. LB, D.

Day 2: Ancohuma – Rinconada.

We will need a 4 hours climb to reach the pass of Korwasini at 4480m and another 2 hours to the moraines. Camp at 4000m. B, LB, D.

Day 3: Rinconada – Base Camp.

We will trek (5 hours) across the moraines that lead us to the base camp at the Ancohuma glacier. Camp at 4900m. B, LB, D.

Day 4. Base Camp – Camp I.

Today we will make a 5-hour climb crossing to the snowfields where we will set our next camp at 5700m. B, LB, D.

Day 5: Camp I – Summit – Camp I.

It takes about 6 hours to reach the summit along easy snow walls and plains. 3 hours for the return to our altitude camp. B, LB, D.

Day 6: Camp I – Rinconada Camp.

We descend to la Rinconada. Camp. B, LB, D.

Day 7: Rinconada – Ancohuma.

Trek down to the base camp and from here down to Ancohuma village. Camp B, LB, D.

Day 8. Ancohuma – Sorata.

Transport back to Sorata. In the afternoon, we will visit the caves of San Pedro. Hotel. B, LB.

Day 9. Sorata La Paz.

Transport back to La Paz. B.
