AACH02      Climb Cerro Plomo (5430m)     5D/4N 


Climb your first 5000m summit! This expedition is ideal for a first high altitude experience, and acclimatization. Mount Cerro Plomo is an easy mountain that needs no special mountain climbing techniques, but just demands a yearning to reach the top, and good physical condition. Anyhow it is a perfect way to get you ready for other major expeditions, and offers a chance to see the main summits of the central Chilean mountain range, and future goals (Tupungato, Aconcagua, etc.) apart from a spectacular view of Santiago by night (weather permitting).

Day 1: Santiago - La Parva - Franciscano Lake.


We leave Santiago in the morning, and drive to La Parva Ski Resort. From here a short walk will take us to our camp located close to the Franciscano Lake. (3600m). LB, D.

Day 2: Franciscano Lake - Piedra Numerada.

We do an approach walk to the camp known as Piedra Numerada (3400m). On the way we will have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Camp. B, LB, D.

Day 3: Piedra Numerada - Olla del Plomo.

We follow a beautiful valley up to the Olla del Plomo camp site (6 to 8 hours walk) at a height of 4300m at the foothills of Cerro Plomo Glaciers. Camp. B, LB, D.

Day 4: Olla del Plomo - Summit - Olla del Plomo.

Climb Cerro Plomo (5430m - 7 to 8 hours). First we will pass the Pirca del Indio, an ancient Inca sanctuary before we cross the glacier that leads us to the summit plateau. From the top, and if weather permits, the view of the Andean mountain range is exceptional. We can see Tupungato Volcano (6570m) and Mount Aconcagua (6959m). Return to the camp. B, LB, D.

Day 5: Olla del Plomo – La Parva - Santiago.

This long day hike will take us back to La Parva from where our car will take us back to Santiago de Chile. Transfer to your Hotel. B, LB.
