AABJ01   Pampas Tour (Anaconda Tour) 4D/3N

Day 1: We leave Rurrenabaque by car at 9:00 a.m to the Municipal Reserve of the Yacuma River. After 3 hours, we arrive at our Ecolodge Caracoles, which is located on the shores of the Yacuma River. After lunch, you will have time to relax in hammocks. In the afternoon, we make a boat trip where you have the chance to see a lot of wildlife like caimans, alligators, monkeys, capybaras, pink river dolphins, turtles and numerous species of birds. Unlike a rainforest most of these animals can easily been seen from boats travelling the Yacuma River.

Day 2: In the morning, we walk through the wetlands looking for anacondas and alligators. When we return to our lodge, we have lunch and time to take a nap. In the afternoon, we can swim with pink river dolphins (in the rainy season). After dinner by boat, we make another excursion to look for the glowing red eyes of caimans and other nocturnal life we can find along the riverbank.

Day 3: In the morning, we travel by boat to a place where we can observe a lot of squirrel monkeys and other wildlife. Either after lunch, we can walk again in the wetlands to observe monkeys and birds, or we can go fishing. Fish species that exists in the Yacuma River includes blanquillos, bentones and piranhas.

Day 4: After breakfast, we discover the wetlands on a horseback, the typical way of transport in this region. During this excursion, we have the possibility to observe birds and different species of monkeys. After lunch, we transfer you back to Rurrenabaque where we arrive at about 5:00 p.m.

Fauna at the Pampas Area of Bolivia:

The Pampas are home to habitat-restricted endemics and endangered species such as Manned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus), Marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus), White woodpecker (Melanerpes candidus), and Red-shouldered macaw (Diopsittaca nobilis), to name but a few. Large specimens of Anaconda and Tapir, also been observed at close range on past trips to the area. Associated oxbow lakes close to the Heath River are home to noisy families of Giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), although some of these lakes are now infested with another giant, the Paiche (Arapaima gigas) – a large predatory fish introduced to Lake Sandoval, near Puerto Maldonado (in Peru), in the 1960s.
